Since when you are playin Half Life 2 DM and where did u get it / heared about?

I bought HL2 in November 2004 when it came out after long years of waiting being a HL1 fan.

In which clans you played already?

The great DMK years ago when dm was in its heyday, and TSGK of course.

Tell us more about your Half Life 2 DM history:

I started by completing the Half Life 2 game, its ok, not as good as the original Half Life story, but the gameplay improvements are welcome.

I think it was 2006 when I returned from university I picked up HL2 again and had a go at the multiplayer game, known as dm. I really liked the original killbox map which was a full server with guys blowing eachother up with rpgs in this huge cube with floating platforms!! It was immense!!

The rag dolls made me laugh so much, dm became a huge source of entertainment when I should have been looking for a job lol. After I found a job, dm became the game I wanted to make levels for, so I installed the hammer editor and rekindled my love for creating HL1 single player levels some years ago.

I started creating dm_council, which I based on a council estate, which I wanted to be realistic as possible, with a outdoor courtyards and indoor apartments with furniture. It took many hours and remakes to come up with the released version, which I took to Osiris at TSGK who agreed to host it on his servers. This map received a good response, so I went on to create another town map inspired from my travels in europe, dm_centrum_tsgk.

2010, 4 years on, and nearly a dozen maps later, I still have one final map I want to start upon, but struggling to find the time. There's only so much you can make with an aging engine and less players to play it. Even still, for my own purposes I would like to make this final map, which would be my biggest project to date.

Overall, dm has been a great experience, I have made many friends whom I swap information with on mapping, play dm with and socialise on forums. It's just so addictive because of the drama that unfolds when you cook up a nade with the g gun or do an fast orb. My favourite pastime is spamming my 'balls' around killbox_v8, and watching players fizzle when hit by an orb. Well, you wonder why im called Sadist. Now you know :D

What`s great about Half Life 2 DM and the scene?

The gameplay is what stands out, the weapons are designed so that the personality of the player comes out in how you use them. The way in which you can play is so versatile, for example you can not only throw grenades, but pick them up with the gravity gun and hurl them like a grenade launcher. Also you can throw almost any object using the gravity gun which is a unique feature to HL2. Bunny hopping, killboxes, lift jumps and the dedication of talented mappers who add unique experiences to what is in gaming terms an ancient game.

What could be better in the Half Life 2 DM scene?

Finding a server which you like is sometimes hard, with the right maps, and players. Left 4 Dead got it somewhat right by adding the feature of lobbies, which made it easier to find a full server (once the lobby becomes full). Then you are taken to a server with all players (assuming nobody leaves). In DM, there are hundreds of empty servers, which doesn't say alot for new comers to the game. So I would say to improve dm, implement the lobby system to get players into full servers again.

On which servers are you usually playing now and why?

I haven't played so much of late, due to getting a new job and moving to the south. But when I do play I play TSF servers and TSGK server I and II. These servers only play killboxes, and I am a killbox gamer through and through!

How much time you spend for Half Life 2 DM and/or modding/mapping etc. per week?

Currently about an hour a week.

Which players/clans/communitys you like, got your respect and wanna give some shouts out?

So many :D

Osiris, head of TSGK clan, for he was the first contact I had for dm who helped me to launch my first few maps onto servers.

GTA_mike, Massif, and others who I have had awesome classic games with on TSGK server I.

Lord_Davros and Ravage and the rest of TSF for being good mates.

Big shout out to Scottish_Warrior of clan DMK, who sadly passed on 2 years ago but he embodied what is great about dm, chivalry, good humour, fair play and being an all round cool and friendly guy.

Which are your 3 favourite maps?

Killbox_tsgk_v8. That's it. There are no more :D

You like more DM or TDM?

DM.

Final words / wishes for the future:

I only hope Half Life 3 relaunches the hunger for dm ness!!
